French/Spanish Education Certificate

Requirements

Unless students begin the program with a strong background in the target language, they may require five years to complete the major with certification program.

Students majoring in Spanish or French and seeking P-12 certification must take the GACE Basic Skills/Program Admission Assessment and the following courses prior to being admitted to the College of Education.

Spanish majors must complete:

SPAN 3101 - Spanish Conversation 3
SPAN 3102 - Spanish Composition 3
SPAN 3030 - Introduction to Hispanic Literature 3
(and)
SPAN 4012 - Spanish Culture and Civilization 3 (or)
SPAN 4013 - Latin American Culture and Civilization 3
(and)
SPAN 4040 - Spanish Linguistics 3
SPAN 4170 - Advanced Language Skills 3
SPAN 4484 - Senior Capstone 1 (and)
Another 4000-level literature course

French majors must take:

FREN 3100 - Composition and Conversation 3
FREN 3220 - Survey of French Literature I 3
FREN 3221 - Survey of French Literature II 3
FREN 4150 - Advanced Grammar and Linguistics 3
(and)
FREN 4310 - Francophone Civilization 3 (or)
FREN 4320 - French Civilization and Culture 3
(and)
FREN 4484 - Senior Capstone 1 (and)
Another 4000-level literature course

They must complete through the 2001 level in a second language. Certification candidates must have a GPA of 2.7 or higher.
