HIST 4010 - Teaching Methods for History (3 /0/. 3)
Prerequisite: HIST 1111 and HIST 1112 and HIST 2111 and HIST 2112 and HIST 2302 This course is intended to introduce students to the practice of teaching history. It is designed to help students succeed as history educators. We will focus on developing the skills necessary to teach history effectively by incorporating the latest scholarship with the newest technological innovations and pedagogical strategies. We will also work with primary sources, identifying exceptional sources and developing strategies for students to engage these sources. This course will devote special attention to developing teaching strategies for students enrolled in middle grades (6-8) and high school (9-12). Students will also learn to use the Georgia and National Performance Standards (Common Core) to develop history curriculum.
