BIOL 5425 - Fire Ecology (3 Lecture Hours 3 Lab Hours 3 Credit Hours)
Prerequisites: Instructor permission is required to enroll. Admittance to the class requires a short interview with the instructor. Students must demonstrate they have the maturity and available time to perform the required prescribed fire activities. In addition, the student must complete all required forms and waivers as directed by UWG and other groups. This is a field-based course in fire ecology concepts and techniques of the Southeast. Hands-on lessons address the use of prescribed fire to benefit ecosystems and cover safety, weather, fuel, firing techniques and smoke management. Students will write a prescribed burn plan and participate in several burn events outside of regular class time.
